The Adirondack Scenic Railroad is seeking a motivated individual to direct and oversee the daily and long-term operation of its rail passenger services. Current rail operations extend from Utica northward to Big Moose, with preparations currently underway to extend service north of Big Moose. The Adirondack Scenic Railroad is supported by paid staff members and by a large number of volunteers who staff trains and facilities and who provide a wide range of additional support services. Scheduled train services vary in scope and size depending on the season and the features offered on a variety of trips. In addition, a significant number of trains are operated for private events, weddings, etc. The Operations Manager reports to the Executive Director and is accountable for the operational and financial viability of the railroad’s services, the sound management of staff and volunteers, and the compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements of the operation.
Adirondack Railway Preservation Society / Adirondack Scenic Railroad is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator who will provide professional staff support to ARPS employees and volunteers. This person will ensure that volunteers are scheduled to operate trains, as well as assist office and mechanical staff as necessary. The volunteer coordinator is responsible for volunteer and crew scheduling, training, supervision, federal rail reporting and general coordination and communication. The successful candidate will enjoy both engaging with a wide variety of people as well as the minute details of event planning. It is imperative that candidates write well; Diplomacy, diligence, optimism, and a sense of humor towards life and work are essential.
Thendara Station Manager
The Adirondack Scenic Railroad is currently hiring a “Thendara Station Manager” to supervise our Thendara ticket office and gift shop. A self-motivated, enthusiastic individual with the ability to multitask will thrive in this position. Working for the Adirondack Scenic Railroad requires a bit of flexibility in regards to scheduling, great people skills, and creativity.

You will have the opportunity to work with the public, many dedicated volunteers, and other local establishments to promote our mission as a nonprofit organization, as well as our various excursions. Employees are encouraged to ride the train to become more familiar with our “product” and mission!
